24 days in a campervanSydney to Canberra
24 -27 th Sep 2012
24th Sep was the day we picked up our caravan! Starting in Sydney, calling at Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road and back up to Sydney. Often campervanners head up north from Sydney to Brisbane and the gold coast but as we will fly into Brisbane after spending time in New Zealand we thought we'd be differnet and head down south exploring New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The campervan would give us the freedom to do what we want when we want, rather than be tied down to coach timetables and hostels.
We got the train from central Sydney to the outskirts and picked our new home up from Travellers Autobarn. License plate XTW312, a 2.4litre petrol engined Toyota Hiace hitop. As my co travellers had the lurgy I did all the driving the first couple of days, we all since share the driving. It is now day 18/24 (I think!) and this is the first chance I've had to upload pics and write about it. As I'm currently in Melbourne this will be brief, I'll probably miss lots of stuff out but will update it more in the future.
Luxuries in XTW312 'Sheila' are fridge, grill, 2 hobs, sink, lounge cum bedroom and an upstairs slide across bed. Petrol prices range from $1.37 to 1.52 (0.88 to 0.97 GBP) a litre.
We generally aim to camp each night for free either in an ad hoc area or an official free rest area. Every 2-3 nights though we need to find a proper campsite with power to recharge the battery. And also to make use of showers!
