AUSTRALIA
Canberra, South Australia
26-27th Sep 2012
We arrived in Canberra on the 26th September and stayed at the EPIC centre caravan park for $8pppn. An hours walk got us into the CBD. We could have taken a bus but fancied the exercise. Canberra is the capital of Australia. I had read and been told by people in Sydney not to bother going as it is a bit boring but we went anyway. There advise wasn't wrong but it was still worth going.

below: evening activities. It is very cold at night so we have cups of tea and 'goon'. 'Goon' is the cheapest alcoholic drink you can get in Oz. It is very popular to backpackers. It is basically 4-5 litres of wine in a bag that comes in a box. True backpackers remove the box and use the bag of goon for a pillow too! For $10 it is good value! A bottle of beer is $3.50!
below: the sleeping arrangements. You can just see the slide across bed upstairs. This was where I slept until it got sooo unbearably cold that we all had to sleep downstairs for body heat. Damn I miss staying in a rowdy noisy smelly hostel!
